This was posted on the UGA board (and apparently here on this board a few hours ago)

I see what I have been led to believe are several NCAA violations.

I thought you couldn't force football players to live in the dorm?

Buying out leases?

Doesn't this mess with their Pell Grant money if they have to live on campus?

Don't be a dick.

A few years ago when UGA had a rash of thuggery, I asked a former UGA player why they don't lock them up in athletic dorms with 24/7 GA's to monitor them and keep them out of trouble, he told me it was Title IX NCAA rules. Basically, if you "force" ie provide athletic dorms for all football scholly's, you have to provide the same accomodations for all student athletes, tennis, baseball, girl sports, etc.

Educate me.

Does UGA not do that? I know they do at Alabama. That's what Bryant Hall is for.

im sure it will be "optional" thus nullifying a commitment across all sports. im sure if any university athlete wants on campus housing they have a solution, though i doubt they come across this problem often.

Scholarship football players live all over T-Town. Not just in Bryant Hall. And unless things have changed, don't a bunch of LSU baseball guys live in some of Skip's rental units?

Not when it's in writing from the head coach as in the OP. Hard to play games with NCAA when you put shite like that in writing.

Yes, but the ones that have to live on campus live in Bryant Hall. All freshmen, most sophmores, and probably a some juniors live there. Strong isn't forcing all the players to live in the dorms either.

I'm going to plead ignorance of anything other than what's been written in the thread but...

Assuming what you wrote is true aren't they fine assuming they have adequate housing for the female athletes and athletes for other sports to take part in athletic dorms should they so desire?
