I've only watched a handful of James Bond movies. Mostly when I was younger and they were on TV.
Do they follow a timeline? Or can you watch them independently and out of order?

this is what makes bond films great. Each one is a new adventure and the series can live forever.

They should do this with Indy IMO

The Daniel Craig ones are in order.

The EON films from 1962-2002 follow the first continuity of films.

The Daniel Craig EON films have started a whole new continuity.

The non-EON films follow their own unique continuities.

Ok. I want to see the ones with him in it. Can I see Skyfall first? Does it matter that much to the story?

I always thought of the name James Bond as a codename given to the top agent in MI6.

I know that they made it the character's actual name in Skyfall, but I still think of it the other way.

I don't see it working as well with Indiana Jones.

It helps to understand his mental state if you've seen Quantum of Solace first, but the story of Skyfall is self contained.

Skyfall more or less stands on its own. But Quantum of Solace is a direct sequel to Casino Royale (2006).

Also, From Russia With Love is a direct sequel to Dr. No.

The news ones fricked up any semblance of continuity the series had. The Craig ones seem like an entirely different series to me.

There are two non-EON productions. The first was Casino Royale (1967), and the second was Never Say Never Again (1983), which was basically a remake of Thunderball (1965).

You can watch skyfall, it does not connect to the first two Craig films in any way that you would need to see those first. In some ways they used it as a reset to potentially start back over doing the books. Or just create a whole new set of stories. We will see where they head with it.

As far linear goes Casino Royale is the first book of the Fleming series. However QoS and Skyfall are not books at all.

Yeah, Skyfall rebooted the reboot.

It's all messed up now.

I would love to see them remake some of the old ones. It would be nice to see Craig in those roles. Grittier rather than smooth.

However.

Then you would lose the magic of those films, nothing will ever compare to the Connery and at least a few of the Moore movies. Made my childhood fun, and I am only 27.

One of the criteria on MI6's checklist for potential agents:

Did his wife die?

YES NO

Does MI6 give them lessons in having impeccable style and taste before shipping them out?

So every dead Bond wife has the code name of Tracy Bond?

BTW, she married Lazenby

Now that Skyfall has rebooted the reboot, I think they should do what they did with Casino Royale, and give all of Fleming's books a proper adaptation.
