Why do we make fun of helpless people?

My brother is somewhat obese and yet he deplores being called fat. It flips a switch in him and he goes nuts and starts taking people out and shite. You got any good fat jokes?

Most decent people do not make fun of truly helpless people. I'm not sure how being overweight makes one totally helpless, but I would imagine some obese people have health and medical causes that are responsible and it's out of their control.
