Is P. Manning the only one with a multi-Super Bowl monkey on his back?

Whether its fair or not a lot of pro athletes are remembered and judged by the overall titles they have. With that said I remember when Manning won his first Super Bowl a few years back it seemed like that monkey was off his back. But with all the talk last week about his 1 and done record and his overall mediocre 9-11, now 10-11, playoff record he seems to be held to a standard of "well, you really need 2 Super Bowls at the very least"

So my questions are this.

1) What are the causes of this? The fact that he hold so many records? The fact that his younger brother has 2 Super Bowls with far inferior statistics? That his biggest competition throughout his career, Tom Brady and the Patts have 3?

2) Are there any other athletes, in football or any other sport, has been held to a standard of needing at least 2 titles to really cement their legacy? Perhaps Lebron James was at this level for a bit?

I think a lot of it has to do with his horribly shitty younger brother having 2.

ETA: That's how it goes if you want to be in the GOAT discussion. Peyton needs more than 1... LeBron needs more than 2...

ETA2: Tiger Woods still needs to win 5 more majors.

like the previous guy said, his brother having two hurts him a lot. espn also has to talk about something so they will make stuff bigger than it has to be.

Arron Rodgers deserves to be apart of this discussion too.

LeBron immediately comes to mind. People had been saying LeBron couldn't win a ring for years. He wins one, and the new story is that he only has one. He wins another, and he still doesn't have 6.

A lot of it has to do with his poor past performances in the playoffs. He's the rich man's Dan Marino and won't be considered one of the greatest without multiple rings.

There are quite a few of your talking heads (same people propelling this conversation) that have previously talked about Peyton being the best ever.

Games like his 24 point comeback in the second half. Throwing for 7td in a game, and this season overall. Then they say stuff like this. I don't really think any of them stick with a real opinion, and it is so hard to say best QB ever but he is the best I have watched.

He makes the most,"holy crap!" passes that I see. Does that make him the best ever? I don't know, but I just want to continue watching him play.

Never in my life can I remember a quarterback so highly touted coming out of high school, and never has anyone doubted that he has the physical abilities to meet the hype. I think even the Peyton haters are surprised, looking back, that Peyton Manning has fewer Super Bowl titles than his younger brother and fewer than a 6th round pick.

Like it or not, he's already considered "one of the greatest" (did you hear he calls his own plays?!?) but the multiple rings argument is what is preventing him from being called THE greatest.

And that's fair.

The Colts won that Super Bowl in spite of Peyton, not because of him.

He's unreal, but will never be above Montana or Brady in my book.

Rodgers is fine because he still has so much time expected in his career. People aren't knocking him for only winning 1.

Which is such a crazy thing to argue in Football.

He can't even play for the other side of the ball, he can only score points.

I hope he wins a 2nd just so it will MAYBE quiet some of the discussion about it.

Seriously, you're going to argue he isn't the best ever? The only two guys who you can really even try to make an argument about them being better are Montana and Brady. Brady loses points because a lot of his success comes from playing under the greatest football coach ever.

In terms of PLAYING THE POSITION, Manning is EASILY the GOAT. Titles doesn't have THAT much to do with it IMO. It's true that a QB can make-or-break a team but it still takes other pieces to win titles. Peyton has played a lot of his career with mediocre coaches and mediocre players around him.

To be fair, it's tough to judge because Belichick is the only pro coach that Brady has played for and he was working on getting fired from his second head coach job before Mo Lewis changed his destiny.

And what about bill Walsh?

Of the 3 only one of these players hasn't played for a HOF (or one to be) coach.
