My wife and I are looking to have someone handle a simple will for both of us. Anybody here an attorney themselves or know of anyone? I'll leave you 40 acres and a mule.

I used Biff Bayard at Baker Donaldson. He was good.

I don't know how common this is, but consider checking with your employer for will service. Mine offers free will preparation services through a program. There's a list of lawyers in the area.

I haven't done it yet, so I can't give a recommendation.

The better free/cheapskate advice in Louisiana, is to simply tell you to take a sheet of notebook paper, HANDWRITE "Will" on the top and then HANDWRITE everything you want to give away and to whom, sign your name, and put in a sealed envelope marked "Will." Voila, you're done. ETA, it probably wouldn't hurt to date it, as well.

I was simply saying that is better advice than using legalzoom. I wasn't suggesting that it was good advice.

It's also probably also at least as good as using a "TV Lawyer," as well, though.

Seen a few old (and dead) lawyers who have done this with big estates.

OP: Search "olographic will" or La Civ Code Art 1575 for more information.

Go look at the civil suit records/successions/probate in your parish/county and study a few until you find one you like.

Get a copy.

Go home, re type, and change the names and property descriptions to suit your estate and belongings.

Have it notarized.

Save hundreds of dollars.

You want to maybe tell us what city you live around or should we just list every lawyer we know?
