I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the only limit they observe is a weight limit on the boat to make sure they don't sink it.

Me too, but in south Louisiana it's called dolphin.

Yeah I ate a many of fillet that came home with my dad when he worked offshore when I was a kid. Now days not many will let you even fish.

Thank Diamond Offshore for that. About 14 years ago coast guard checked a crew change that just arrived back on land. They had lots of tuna. Diamond was ticketed for taking tuna without a commercial fishing license and the fine was large. Quite a few companies stopped allowing fishing as a result.
