Alabama: If Nick Saban moves past Lane Kiffin, do not rule out former Detroit Lions Scott Linehan as a candidate for the offensive coordinator job at Alabama, a source has informed CoachingSearch.

Mike Groh and Freddie Kitchens are also candidates.

This would get me excited as an Alabama fan. It actually makes sense.

the previous 2 OCs worked with Linehan at some point, I think. I know Nuss worked with him in STL. Not too drastic of a change if they went with SL.

I'm honestly surprised Linehan hasn't gotten more college looks. He was the OC I worked with when I was a trainer. He's incredibly efficient, doesn't take any shite, and has the type of offensive philosophy that takes what the defense gives him. He's not afraid to air it out if he has the personnel. His players really respected him and while he's pretty cut and dry he's not a bad guy.

This feels like the equivalent of "Gruden to Texas" to me.

The problem is this translates to exactly what they just had at Alabama, heinously predictable offense.

Linehan is more aggressive in his play calling than Nuss was and he's not near as predictable IMO.

The two previously worked together with the Miami Dolphins and have connections with Michigan State.

The best thing about Lane Kiffen is Layla Kiffen.

Most of my sample from his was with the Rams and Lions, and I haven't seen much aggression except from Stafford, but it's hard to tell since Stafford is such an ad libber.

I've watched a lot of Lions football over the last few years, and Linehan was anything but aggressive in his play calling there. That may have something to do with Schwartz, but I can't tell you how many times I've been amazed at his lack of use of Calvin in the Red Zone.

He's worked for Saban before. His past OC hires have have some sort of connection to him.
