Vince Carter 32nd in scoring 22,609, 20pg, no finals appearances, 10th in 3's made, 8 all stars

Mitch Richmond 41st in scoring 20,497, 21ppg, 2002 Lakers championship (4 minutes played total), 6 all stars

Antawn Jamison 43rd in scoring 20,032, 18ppg, 2 all stars, no championships

As a side note, everyone in the top 45 in scoring is either in the HOF or will be other than the 3 mentioned above and Tom Chambers who is 42nd

Tracy McGrady 61st in scoring 18,381, 19ppg, 7 all stars, no finals

Glenn Rice 62nd in scoring 18,336, 18ppg, 3 all stars, 2000 Lakers Championship scoring 12ppg in finals, 15th in 3's made, 40% career 3FG%

As a comparison:
Chris Mullin is a HOFer
67th in scoring 17,911 18ppg, no finals appearances, 5 all stars and has no other relative stat worth mentioning other than he played on the Dream Team. He did average 25/5 for 5 season in a row with the Warriors.
I know it's dumb to compare it this way, but when you look at what Chris Mullin has accomplished, how is it that different than the guys mentioned above?

IMO,
Carter is a HOF b/c of his scoring and he is the best dunker of all time, which i think counts for something, and i don't think there's a debate in that one.
The other 4 are maybe's and i'd put them in order of best chance of getting in as,
McGrady 55%
Rice 45%
Richmond 40%
Jamison 5% (no chance probably, just there b/c he has 20,000 points which is hard to believe but he does)

All of these guys have more points than McHale, Cousey, Magic, Dumars, Worthy, Frazier, Maravich, Dennis Johnson, Russell, all in HOF

thr basketball HOF is the worst in sports. the NBA doesnt have their own, so its a general BB HOF that lets EVERYONE in from star players to high school coaches, refs, and really good beer vendors. its a joke.

and no to everyone on your list

Richmond yes, the rest no. I see no scenario where Tracy Mgrady is a HOFer

No to all in my opinion. HOF should be only for the greatest, not just good players.

For a short period of time he was possibly the best player in the NBA. There's precedent because Bill Walton is in (even though he also has college to help). McGrady has a pretty good chance of getting in. For a small stretch he was one of the best players of all time. I think that should be enough.

For 7 strait seasons, he averaged 27/6/5 and led the league in scoring twice in a row

Much better stats than Mullins 5 year run and neither did anything in the playoffs.
WHy is Mullins in the HOF?

T-Mac is very borderline for me. He had a 7 year stretch where he was one of the best players in the game.

From 2001-2007 he averaged
27 points
6.6 reb
5.4 assist
1.5 steals
1 block

Those are STRONG numbers for a 7 year stretch.

when I think of McGrady, I think of someone who played zero defense, put up good offensive numbers, never won anything, and was always injured.

That doesn't scream hall of fame to me.

When I think of Chris Mullin, I think of a guy that put up good numbers b/c of a run and gun system, was a good 3 point shooter, played zero defense, and never won anything and was never the best player on his team, but was on the Dream Team
Had he not been on the Dream Team, i don't know if he makes the HOF.
When I think of Dennis Johnson, I think of a guy that had meh numbers, was a good defender, and won championships b/c of Larry Bird and Kevin McHale and was never even the 2nd best player on his team.

WHen i think of McGrady, I think of a guy that led the league in scoring, was injured a lot in his career, played on crappy teams, was a great dunker, has plenty of highlights, couldn't win a playoffs series, and has the single greatest comeback in a game, ever.

McGrady has a lot of things to hang his hat on that were great during his career. Problem is the playoffs weren't one of them.
