defensive lines

going to be hard to be able to build a great defensive line in college football anymore. I mean a dominant one.
We all know the big time athletes for DT/NT are really rare. And this is one position that few are able to step in and play right away. they need strength and conditioning and coaching.
So the first year of eligibility is eaten up right there. So they've got 2 years left. And we've seen that it takes most of them till their senior year to really be great. Well, no one is staying anymore until their senior year. That's just the fact of college football. And the great DE's, who stand a better chance of playing right off the bat - well, if they are great - we've seen it - if they are redshirted their freshman season, you are lucky to get 2 years out of them.
IMHO, this is what is really allowing offenses to score a lot. Teams that traditionally have great defenses are now struggling in giving up points, because you've got to be finding new guys who aren't seasoned into the DL.
my gosh, we never got a good year out of the FREak. Ego had a pretty good year, but he wasn't dominating.
I don't know if we'll ever see the likes of a Booger McFarland or Eric Dorsey again. WE may get guys with the talent, they just won't be around long enough to become dominant.

brave post as some will break out the history books and try and prove you wrong. but i agree that it will be much harder, esp into the 2 deep. that is one reason defenses are not as dominant as before. chief has the right idea though with his light and fast approach to a defense as a way to slow down these quick offenses. auburn does it with the run though and that will take awhile for defenses to catch up too. sabans standard D looked like a dinosaur this year. our pro offense is what saban's D is set to shut down.
