Now that I know that global warming created the polar vortex, I can relax.

That's a scary, "You must watch the Weather Channel/CNN/FOX News/etc." term for a blast of cold artic air.

It's not anything new, if that's what you're asking. Just enough to scare people into tuning in.

Worked on me, even, but it is a tried and true sheeple herding technique.

The pig, bear, man himself? The guy who sold his TV station to the very folks he claims causes climate change, er... global warming? Then tries to say the sell date was in December instead of January, so he can save $$$M in taxes caused by the dirty arse Obama when he raised the tax rate?To the ultra liberal who wants YOU to do as he says, not as he does? You mean THAT GUY.

I aint giving that piece of shite a dime.

When the press changed from reporting the news to alternating being crisis mongers/political water carriers, we lost a lot in this country.

What I wouldn't give to be calmly reassured by John Chancellor that,

1. I could handle the truth,

2. Things may not be as bad as they initially appear, and

3.) No matter what happens, we will get through this together.

Seems like ancient history or Republican propoganda - but I remember them being as serious as a heart attack about it. On hindsight, this was comfortably before the "Hole in the Ozone layer" hysteria, which then segeued into "Global Warming is going to kill us all", now with the one-size-fits-all solution, human activity is responsible for all sorts of "Climate Change".

Do you think they realize the masses have caught on? With archival footage, stories, etc., in the information age we do not have to rely on anecdotes or institutional memory - we can go back and find where these people have been wrong (or at the very least, hyperalarmists to a fault) on such a consistent basis that we suspect anything they say?

Obviously not. I really began to wonder when Obama was re-elected.

Good catch. That actually had a pretty wide saturation across the media - made tons of references in movies and television. Because the rainforests are actual places (not like AGW or climate change) - they had to do a couple of subtle things, which ultimately failed.

1. Blame the West (tricky, because it was Westerners, mainly, trying to save the damned things, while the rapidly growing indigenous populations using slash and burn who were taking many of the forests down faster than they could recover).

2. Change "jungle" to "rainforest" - because people don't like jungles. They don't mind jungles being cleared. But rainforest sounds like utopia, rather than the harsh, lethal place that it is in reality (especially to pansy liberals from NE colleges).

3. Really get the celebrities involved. This was the single area they had the most success - many, Sting comes to mind, visited and started their own foundations - guaranteeing a free flow of money to the cause.

Part of the problem was that as it was gaining steam - the African famine hit really bad. Pictures of actual starving children trumps the normal sheeple herding techniques. Particularly Band-Aid, USA for Africa and Live Aid redirected (rightly so) a good bit of those do-gooder efforts into feeding, clothing and housing actual needy people, rather than a conservation effort that was best left to the local authortities.
