Fantasy Baseball

Newb here. How does a "standard" fantasy baseball league work? Is it as fun as fantasy football?

re: Fantasy Baseball
Typically, there are five hitting categories and five pitching categories.

Standard leagues use:
Avg
HR
RBI
R
SB
ERA
WHIP
Wins
K
Saves

You can either play head to head against someone each week, or play roto style (cumulative numbers in each category over the course of the season).

Football is BY FAR the worst and most boring fantasy sport.

It's a LOT more work than football, just as fun if not more. My league is trade heavy so that keeps everyone's interest

You need to know what you're doing. You need to be committed to be consistently good.

Keeping up with football 3 days a week is enough for me. Basketball and Baseball fantasy blows my mind

re: Fantasy Baseball
With baseball, if you check your team every day and plug in your hottest players, you will most likely win your league. The season is so long with so many games that lots of people slack off from time to time.

That's one reason I like fantasy baseball better than football. You aren't doomed by a bad draft or a few injuries. Hard work pays off.

re: Fantasy Baseball
I posted this in the other fantasy baseball scoring thread.

There are 3 common types of scoring.

Points
Categories
Roto

Points is very similar to football but isn't as popular in the fantasy baseball world.

Categories is usually head to head based where each matchup will start out 0-0-10. The basic 10 categories are Runs/HRs/RBIs/SB/AVG followed by Ks/Ws/Saves/ERA/WHIP. You want to win as many categories each week as possible.

Roto is the granddaddy of all of fantasy sports. You'll have 10 categories, similar to the ones mentioned previously and you will get points based off your ranking in each category. For example in a 10 team league if you have the most runs, you will get 10 points, 2nd most runs will get 9 points, and so on. Your goal is to have the most points overall.

Certain players carry different values across each type of league format as well. For example, JP Arencibia carries almost no value in a standard 10-team head to head 1 catcher league because of his inability to do anything but hit homeruns. But he does carry tremendous value in a roto 2 catcher league because of his ability to put 20-25+ balls in the stands over the span of the entire season from the C position.

And Auction draft > Snake Draft (about 100x more fun with dynasty type keeper leagues where you have minors roster)

Get a solid 2B player. Don't reach but don't be the one to wait on one either. Sucks looking for that position...

This will only be my 2nd season playing fantasy baseball so take it FWIW.
