I've had some sudden issues with my laptop's touchpad today. The movement starts off choppy, then becomes pretty unresponsive as the minutes pass after turning the laptop on. A USB mouse works just fine, so I've narrowed down the issue to the touchpad itself.

Do these typically go bad after several years, or is this malware/driver issues?

I know laptop dances can go bad if you touch the wrong places.

Yes, I had to have mine replaced right after I bought it. Under warranty. Had the same symptoms as yours.

All the time. Cheaper to get a wireless mouse than to fix.

Sounds like your laptop has become a bit touchy.

I use a wireless mouse on my laptop most of the time anyway.

Yes, I had a touchpad that would send the cursor to the corner of the screen and impossible to bring it back to center. I had to turn the touchpad off.
