What's your favorite low fee index fund or mf?

Currently have schd, hdpmx, fkinx and swtsx.

HDPMX is an index fund? Genuinely curious. Am I looking at the wrong fund? It seems to have several things going on that don't suggest it being an index fund (fees, turnover, risk vs reward, etc). Am I wrong?

In any case to answer your question, Vanguard funds seem to be a favorite of many. I'm personally in Hartford large cap index and mid cap index because that's what I'm offered through work plan. Otherwise I'd probably be in Vanguard, and will likely/possibly get into Vanguard funds through a private Roth IRA in the future anyways.

No, it's a mutual fund that pays dividends. I'm up about 10% on it since Oct.

Neither the Hodges fund or Franklin fund are index funds.

What's the simple answer to this question:

What is the difference between index and mutual funds? I think index funds were a TYPE of mutual fund.

They are. The two primary types of funds for this topic are index funds (passive management) and actively managed funds. Index funds track an index and actively managed funds has a manager trying to beat an index. This is a very simple explanation.
