I've known this guy since I was 3. He's not with any recruiting service so he's not trying to out-scoop anyone or anything. He's just there to write. Anyway, he's been covering these things for a few years now and here's his report which, btw, I informed him ahead of time that anything he tells me is going on TD. He's an avid reader.

Anyway, he tells me last night that he's never seen so many media members at one of these games. Some kids look absolutely stat-struck by the whole scene. He also said he's never seen so many go out of their way to try to make a kid tip his hand on where he's committing and some of the kids have decided to have some fun with it. Said if had to report on this for a recruiting service he wouldn't even know where to start. If some kids told him the sky was blue right now he'd walk outside to double check.

That's it. That's my super-secret inside info.

Is it in a picture that my work is blocking because I didn't get anything from the words part?

Nope. That's it. Just a reminder that they're still kids and are going to act as such.

Actually a good post.

It's a good reminder of what kind of stress these kids are being exposed to. I know i would not have handled it well when I was 17-18. It is easy to get frustrated at some of the dumb things the kids say. We often forget that they have not been treated like normal kids for a long time. Tough adjustment for a young person.

If I were one of these studs, I'd be doing the same thing with all the media circus guys hanging on my jock. Even though I was born and raised on LSU football, and bleed P&G, if I were 17 and had all of these schools after me, I'd be having fun with it.

That said, I admire the kids who committed months earlier and stick to it and want to have a relatively quiet senior year. That's just not how I'd roll if I were 17.

ed: I would not be jerking my main target school around, and I don't think these guys are either. But, the "media?" (air quotes for people who actually earn a living following these 17 yr olds around and writing for recruiting services), they'd be good sporting fun.

He's actually there for a local paper in Virginia. There's a handful of kids from there and he's there to cover them for the prep section of their sports page.

I love it.

Recruiting services and the media created this debacle, let the kids run with it. Any one that caught up in it to pester a kid needs some perspective.

I hope we get the best players, but damn. Its just football

He should get on twitter and become an expert, he is more than qualified.

I just found it to be an interesting conversation. Just the media coverage in general. There's everything from national SI & ESPN writers to local high school newspaper reporters there. So a big time recruit can go from talking to an ESPN reporter to Larry from history class.

He doesn't do twitter, Facebook, etc. I've been trying to get him to sign up here for years instead of lurking.

as annoying as twitter can be, it's actually really useful for reporting in real time. Every journalist should have an account imo

He has an account with the paper but they have interns that do the tweeting. I'm not sure he even knows how to find the shite tweeted from his handle.

Recruiting services media should not even be allowed to contact high school kids at all. It is freaking ridiculois.
