Need call of duty extinction help

I get stuck on the second barrier give when it's just me and my buddy. We both specialize and one provides armor while the other uses ammo and both use ims quite frequently. We can get close but once the giant aliens (rhinos or something I think) start coming at us we can take one but not multiple? Any tips we miss out on or do we just need to get another person to play.
And for people who have made it past the city.. How hard is it past then? Are there lots of big big aliens (rhinos?)?
ETA:don't care for goin online to play because I prefer to just play it with my good friends.
And we use the ak-12 and the LMG that's in the city.

like the above poster said.. Sentry guns are pretty OP.
armor piercing ammo, feral instincts, sentries, armor. pretty much all you need
I haven't done many duos but the ones I did do worked best if we had one medic and one engineer. You can forgo the engineer and use a damage specialist or a tank or something if you're having trouble with rhinos

Its easy if you have a good team of people trying to contribute an everyone doing their part.
I have gotten to the very end where you have to run back to the chopper after destroying the final hive I think they are called.
Haven't been able to beat that though, there is a point where a gate is locked, not sure if you have to fight your way out of everything chasing you or what. There are probably 10 of the rhinos and a lot of everything else at that point though.

Have you gotten past it? I have made it there a few times with the pick up groups, never past it though.
It gets annoying though since you play for like an hour up until that point though an its hit or miss whether you will even make it there only to surely die.
