Yeah, like I wasted my valuable time on Xmas to see the depths of Reeves' craft.

Apparently the movie studio ALREADY took a write down on this movie so they knew it was a guaranteed stinker long before it hit the theater.

Came out in Japan a few weeks ago and bombed over there. Too much competition for it right now. I still plan on seeing it.

I don't suspect that the Japanese took too kindly that a white guy leads a bunch of Japanese people in the 1700s. The Japanese were a heavily xenophobic society (and still are largely), and not only would they not have followed Keanu Reeves under any circumstance, but they would have likely killed him on sight.

I think this may be destined to be one of the biggest bombs of all time. Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to give this movie a budget of 225 million dollars? Did any executive really not see that this was going to be a disaster? I really don't see why this story would require even a 1/3 of that budget.

I plan to see it soon. I feel like you will enjoy it if you go into it looking to have a good time.

Yep. Budgets have just gotten completely out of control in blockbusters.

neither do Asians, but you mixed the stereotypical Italian and Asian speech into one

No, it's the South Park Japanese voice that does that. But for the record, Italians don't do that little tick. I don't even know where it comes from. The Asian stereotypes make sense. The ones at boarding schoor definitely tark rike that.

I am guessing they should have included marketing in that budget because I have never even heard of the movie until this thread.

$7 million yesterday.

quote:

But perhaps the more interesting story at the movies this holiday is the fate of 47 Ronin, a samurai movie starring Keanu Reeves that cost at least $175 million to make. Yesterday morning the Los Angeles Times's Chris Lee forecast doom for the movie: an estimated $20 million opening "would put 47 Ronin in the top tier of big-budget Hollywood failures, ranking alongside John Carter, R.I.P.D. and The Lone Ranger in the 'when tentpole films go horribly wrong' category." The movie ultimately brought in around $7 million, which is above expectations, but Cunningham wrote that "it’s clear already that it won’t come near offsetting its $170 million production budget."

At least it did better than Grudge Match, the old-people boxing film, which made $4 million. Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty fell somewhere in the middle with $7.8 million.

Go ninja go ninja go!

By the numbers John Carter technically belongs with that group but it was actually a good movie. The tragedy there is we get no sequel.
