LHSAA wants to censor the media

The Executive Committee also placed an item on the agenda that limits what coaches, players and other school officials may say to the media under the guise of integrity and ethics.
Item No. 23 states: "In an effort to ensure a relationship between (among) coaches, players and other school officials and the media, which will reflect and promote the highest standard of sportsmanship, integrity and ethics, it is expected that coaches, players and other school officials make an effort in their communications with the media to stress the positive displays of sportsmanship demonstrated by student-athletes, coaches, spectators and school officials involved in the contest."
That's a mouthful, but the rule, which on the surface harnesses free speech, would disallow anyone under the school' supervision to criticize game officials or comment about specific decisions of game officials. It calls for school officials to cooperate with the media in the interpretation and clarification of rules and other aspects of athletic competition.
The penalty for violation of this rule would be harsh. It states that any coach or player found in non-compliance will not be allowed to participate in the next scheduled contest, including LHSAA post-season games or matches. Subsequent violations would cause disqualification from coaching or playing in the sport for the balance of the sport's season.
The rule, if passed, would place a burden on the media to censor its own questions that may interpreted by the LHSAA as controversial to protect coaches and players from suffering the consequences of this mandate.

If that infringes on the second amendment, I don't see how it would hold up in court if anyone has a problem with it.

Any reporter who censor's his questions should tear up his credentials.

How would they expect the reporters to ask the hard hitting questions about high school athletics?

This is bullshite. It's not the media's responsibility to ask questions in a form that won't get coaches fined/suspended for their answers. It happens all the time in college/pro sports. It's severely frowned upon by pretty much all legitimate sports leagues to criticize officiating in the press. If the LHSAA passes this rule, it's up to the coaches to make sure they say "no comment" or whatever generic cliche they can think of when asked about officiating.

IMO this is more about asking questions about the LHSAA to the coaches. They don't want to be criticized.

They should censor BJ Guzzardo. Oh wait, this SOB doesn't say or do anything other than picking up a check and protecting the good ole boy network in the state.
Just can his arse and the LHSAA would be a better organization for the high schools in the state.
And if Henderson continues to protect this guy's arse, he should be canned also

Henderson should already be canned. He has already proven his job is useless.

So... it doesn't allow players, coaches, or school officials to say "The refs totally blew that one." at the least.
Does it also cover those same groups telling everyone possible that "The LHSAA looked like a monkey fricking a football when it came to the 9 football championships this year."?
