The national meme/theme if we don't win the NFC South will be.

The Saints are gutless chokers?

Will the national sports media and NFL fans dub as so harshly?

I expect so.

Probably won't even bring up the NO Saints, which is the best way to discuss them!

Yes, and as they should.

This team has had many opportunities not only to lock up the #2 seed, but the #1 seed as well.

They choked @ New England
They mailed it in @ New York
They wanted that Seahawk D up their arse @ Seattle
They gave up @ St Louis

If we flop out @ Carolina this weekend, then we deserve any and all criticism that flies our way.

I doubt they even get mentioned.

No one outside of Nola really gives a crap about the Saints unless they're winning.

We have to win this game.

If we don't, any shite we get for our road woes is deserved.

Wow. In that case . . .

I'm hoping that Double Down is right and everybody will ignore the Saints.

But, I still think that the Saints become a national laughingstock.

Atlanta Falcons fans may YET have a happy Christmas!! Schadenfreude is all they have, but, WE HAVE THE SUPERBOWL.

Maybe not. Am I supposed to know EVERYTHING?

DO YOU KNOW EVERYTHING?

The meme will be the chain-reaction pattern of behavior of people calling the 2013 Saints gutless chokers if they don't win the NFC South. It will be like a new disease that everybody will be catching: "Saints are gutless chokers" -- people will think it's cool to repeat this mindless phrase over and over without thought.

That's not a meme?

This. Met a dude in Hawaii this past weekend that was wearing a fleur de lis shirt and watching the game at the same bar I was in. He was from South Dakota. Without asking, I assumed his fandom came along around 2009/10...

No, just gutless chokers.

It will the the cool thing to repeat, and, all the talking heads will suggest it, should the Saints fail to close the deal.

Don't overstate the case.

That's not catchy, related to Katrina, or easy to say.

Why did you pick that phrase?

When the New York Yankees lost the 2004 ALCS to the Boston Red Sox, the phrase repeated in the sports-talk, sportsfan, Yankee fan, circles was that the Yanks were "gutless chokers."

I was living in the NYC area during that time, so, I remember it well.

It certainly would be the factual thing to say. If we lose Sunday, we will have lost every home game since Chicago with the exception of that Thursday night 17-14 win over Atlanta, which didn't exactly disprove the theory that we are atrocious on the road.

Going into the playoffs in a league where being "hot" later in the season matters, with that on our minds? It's a done deal and season is over.

It is so aggravating that Katrina is mentioned for every nationally televised game and many of the regional ones.
