Hootie was never a 5* on 247, ESPN, Rivals, OR Scout. He was averaged out to be a top 32 player on the 247 Composite. Rivals updated their rankings a little bit yesterday, and bumped up pro style QBs. After the re-ranking of Rivals, the 247 composite updates, and Hootie Jones dropped out of the top 32.

The 32 number is important here, because 247 Sports, and the 247 composite only give out 32 5*'s. The number 32 is used, because there are 32 NFL teams.

Sites do cater towards certain teams. Be it to sell more subscriptions, or maybe it's that they pay more attention to recruits who commit to better universities.

Having only 32 5 stars is stupid.

A 5 star should be a 5 star whether he graduates in 2014 or 2021. If there's 100, so be it. If there's 1, so be it.

People really need to move on/get over this already. The difference been the 40th and 30th ranked recruit is just a number.

I agree. If there are 10 5* caliber recruits, then only 10 deserve to be a 5*. There shouldn't be a designated # every year.. Its incredibly stupid

i don't get the correlation between the two. does every NFL team get to draft at least one former high school five star player? do all 32 of the five star players get an NFL jersey or tickets?

When they re-did their ranking, and made the 247 Composite, they had some lame arse excuse of trying to "predict" based off the future NFL draft.

maybe they're trying to project which recruits become first round picks?

If the Saints lose another first round pick, the #32 recruit loses his fifth star

It's all semantics. The number of stars doesn't matter. You can look at tape of a group of players and pick out the elite ones. What number a recruiting service ranks them is irrelevant. Determining who is better will play its way out in the next 3-4 years when they are playing against actual quality competition.

Just like what I was discussing with one of my Ole Miss friends the other day. Hootie, Jamal, and CJ are all elite talents. One person can look at them one way and another can look at them in a completely different light. What's great is that we get to see who is the best in a few years down the road.

For now, enjoy the process.

man, that's a pretty hard prediction to live up to. i wonder if anyone's ever compared five star recruits to their eventual draft order...

There was an article posted here already..its a pretty horrible track record, but there's way less 5*s than 4*s, and even more less than 3*s. Numbers alone make it hard to be even almost right

Get that rationality out of here..there's no room for that on this board.

In all seriousness, I figured there had to have been a recent rankings update on one of the sites that would have shaken up the composite ranks. Good info, per usual.

I'm sure that they would argue that the star ratings must be relative to that year's class because of many reasons. One reason being that it doesn't matter how talented a kid from the 08 class is compared one from this class because they will never compete against one another. You have to draw the line somewhere and the most relevant line is with the class. Deciding that there will be 32 or however many 5 star recruits will be arbitrary regardless of the supposed reason.

At first glance I thought you were 100% correct, but after thinking about it, why does it really matter if there are 32 five stars every year?

All they are really saying is that they think those are the 32 best players THIS year.

How could they possibly work with your system? Who would be the bench mark to compare everyone to?

What's wrong with saying who the top 32 players are? And if your team is getting more of them, you probably have the best chance at being successful with them.
