Just something I noticed while looking at older depth charts. Every year that Miles has been here, LSU has started at least one graduating senior or underclassman who declared himself draft-eligible before finishing out his time here. La'el is projected on CBS Sports as a 2nd-3rd round pick, so there's a fair chance he won't return for 2014. But if he does, LSU will, for the first time in the Miles era, return all five starters on the offensive line. That's going to go a long way toward helping Jennings and the young skill position guys develop.

I'm getting more excited for the future by the day

I would say Collins would gain a lot by coming back. One more dominant year at LT and his stock could really go up. Ferguson and Johnson could also improve if they came back but highly unlikely they will.

Mett got blindsided so many times this season because of Collins. He's overrated

Am I far off by thinking that people overstate this? I agree our pass-blocking was a weakness, but I don't know that it was THAT awful. 2nd half against Bama was, obviously.

Plus having a QB that can move the pocket will make him look way better

I might be wrong but wasnt the hit that took Mett out in the Arkansas game from Collins' man. This is just from memory so don't crucify me if I'm wrong.

Not totally sure, I'd have to see the replay.

I thought he was a first round lock??? He was going to dominate this year and move in to top 10. Then after they see what he can do at the combine, could possibly be top 5. What happen to all those assewipes in here saying all that BS?

Jordan Allen is Beast like too!

Our offensive numbers were too good to be overly critical of the O-line. Next year's group will be experienced, but I also think we have enough good young guys to press them.

on the whole, I don't know that I'd call it a weakness. we had an immobile QB who still had a high ypa, and a ridiculous 3rd conversion rate. they could stand to be better though. not to be Bama-sessed, but I'd like to see us put up the kind of numbers their OL does (lack of holding calls included).

You're not far off. The pass protection was weird this year.

We gave up 21 sacks in 7 games, which comes out to a rather brutal 3 per game. But then we had five games where zero sacks were allowed.

So the O-line this year was inconsistent. They showed flashes of greatness but also showed a lot of weakness at times too. I think a second year for the whole group would lead to a significant improvement.

And like another poster said, Jennings's added mobility compared to Mettenberger will help in that respect too. Not that it's Mett's fault that the O-line gave up so many sacks during certain stretches, but it's just plain fact that Jennings is more agile and mobile, which will help the sack numbers drop.

Yeah, this is another point I wanted to make. The pass-blocking wasn't perfect this year, but having a mobile QB can mask a lot of these deficiencies. If La'el comes back, I'll probably fap FWIW.

I agree a mobile qb will help out a lot. Hopefully AJ doesn't pull a JFF or JJ and bail out of the pocket right when the ball is snapped.

Hmm... I'll take him being 1/2 as good as Manziel.

that it is. hell, I'm excited to have 4 guys back, with a couple others (Pocic and Washington) who have played meaningful snaps. 5 starters back in college is just about unheard of.
