Thinking about snagging one, can't decide.

Enjoy it?

I enjoy it, but their killer titles are not really out yet, Super Mario 3D World is great an all and there are some pretty good titles available, but nothing I would say is a "must own"

If you have the disposable income, you won't be disappointed. If you can wait, I would.

Just depends on your approach. If FPS's and interactive movies are your thing, probably not.

If you just like to have fun and play classically inspired games, then it's more than worth it.

I have a blast with mine, very much worth it.

My son loves his. Nintendoland is pretty cool, and it has some games that really put the touch pad to good use. The wiiverse is a joke, it's just there to advertise more nintendo crap and honestly the mario game that comes with the system and the mario kart game are the same games you've been playing since the 90's, very little has changed other than now you can play 4 players and graphics are a little better. Just bought mario 3d and it's a xmas present for him so we haven't played yet but I've heard good things. There are very few Wii U games that children can play online, that was also disappointing to me as I figured my son could play with his friends from their houses to ours but not the case with anything other than sonic (other than mature games that I don't let him play yet). Someone on here said that none of the games are a must have and I completely agree. They are decent, but nothing earth shattering, but then again I just got him an xbox one and I'm not that impressed with any of the games for it so far either. It will turn your dumb TV into a smart TV, however, so that is a plus. My son has a "dumb" TV but the Wii U allows him to watch netflix, amazon, etc. and the parental controls are very useful.

If you mean advertising that little Johnny finally beat a hard level in new Super Mario Bros...sure.

There's no Mario kart game and if you're talking about Sonic Racing, that actually is something quite new and is one of the better Kart games. I'd highly recommend to any fans.

NSMBU is the same like any serial game. Shiny graphics. Same overall design. And crazy fun. There's a reason that was one of the better 2D platformers.

An oversight maybe,l but the problem is that platformers suffer immensely online. Too much precision involved. Rayman has a nice middle ground though.

Pikmin 3
Rayman Legends
Both Marios
Wonderful 101
Lego City Undercover is about as unique a game as you can get nowadays.
Wind Waker
Aforementioned Sonic

What is the definition of a must have? Like a once in a lifetime game? How many of those exist?

Any of the really stellar Wii games, if you never had one including the Galaxies and Kart.

Yea I'm not all that impressed with it and I know I'm not the only one that feels that way. Nintendo marketed this system as a game changer and it's slogan was "how U will play next". Well one year later and it is once again the low gaming system on the totem pole.

Pikman 3
is ok as long as you like doing the same thing and defeating basically the same characters over and over again.

Both marios
if you're talking about super mario U, it's the same basic 2d nintendo game platform that I played in the 90's. I haven't played any others, but my son beat this game in a few months and that's playing a couple hours here and there on the weekends. This system was way overmarketed and did not meet my expectations. We should be in 3d platforms and kids should be able to play games like super mario with their friends online at this point. It's almost 2014. Where's my hoverboard??

While 3D Mario isn't as popular, I much prefer it. They're a lot more unique and enjoyable than the 2D iterations, imo.

the best thing about the wii u is that it is backwards compatible unlike the other new systems.. so you have so many games to choose from even if you are waiting for that new mario kart you can play the wii's mario kart.

i kind of want to get one as well..

Says almost every game ever. The list of truly unique games is ridiculously small each generation.

I'd say there are no more than 20-30 out of hundreds that really raise the bar each generation. And that's being generous.

So the video is fun, but not a giant time suck? Seems like good middle ground to me, especially for a kid.

That's maybe the oddest comment of all. The general consensus from fans and non-fans is that the console wasn't marketed at all, and when it was it wasn't differentiated ENOUGH from the Wii. That there were no expectations set.

I'll stand by this statement probably until the day I die (or until I see differently). Nintendo systems provide me the most fun games of the consoles

I am a PC gamer. I have absolutely no reason to buy the latest playstation or xbox because they are just trying to be PC's. The nintendo consoles generally offer way more first party content.

People want to whine and cry about nintendo consoles not being OMG L337 H4X YOLO NOSC0P3 graphics and can't support the latest and greatest modern rehash shooter. What are you really whining about? Whining because Nintendo isn't selling out when almost every single company in gaming has?

Back to the original quetion. Monster hunter 3 ultimate is probably the most in depth game on the system with the most amount of stuff to do. It's a truly unique experience and it takes a lot of skill similar to dark souls/demons' souls.

Pikmin 3 is great, Mario 3d World is great. IMO Wind Waker HD is the best HD conversion of a classic game I've ever played.

The library isn't that huge at the moment but the games will come. I'm very happy with mine

This. They're only people not forcing small companies out of the business through ridiculous expectations, continual focus on HD, and blockbuster-or-bust ideology.

With both games and film, I'm expecting a major crash in both industries over the next few years. I'll tell you who won't be majorly affected by it: Nintendo.

I can't wait until it happens either. I think once we have a string of major release FPS titles in a row that are busts, it will happen.

As you may have noticed, there is a definite trend in answers. If you just want a next gen console that can play big name titles that all your friends will be playing, don't get it.

If you are a Nintendo fan, then you know you will get one sooner or later. Because when that next Zelda, or Smash Bros, or Mario Kart, or maybe Metroid hits, you know you're going to want it.

We have one with Nintendoland, Pikmin 3, and Wind Waker HD. Those 3 games alone have been worth it for me, and fear not, there are more to come.
