So why did Mack Brown torpedo the move to hire Saban...

Some unknown hatred here or something.
Maybe just a fear of him showing his sorry incompetent arse up by winning a Natty in less than three years or does he want to hand pick his successor, or did he just think he could ride this shite storm out and keep his job?

They were putting pressure on him to leave. After 16 years of winning seasons, a heisman and national championship, I would have done the same fricking thing if my employer was showing no respect or appreciation for what I had done.
I'm glad he fricked that deal up. Texas deserved it.

Yes it's quite entertaining. And Brown didn't torpedo anything except for his own reputation. Saban was never going anywhere, his silence just earned him a pay raise.

We lived through this to a lesser extent when Slocum was let go...only R.C. wouldn't resign, so Gates fired him.
Up until that point, he had the #3 recruiting class and Franchione managed to frick that one up.
Coincidentally, we were also getting rid of University President Ray Bowen and AD Wally Groff that same academic year.
Texas is keeping Powers but getting rid of Dodds.
