There have been several posts here recently asking for binocular recommendations and Christmas is almost on us so this seems like a pretty good time to link this. It's the new Cornell Lab of Ornithology review of more than 100 binocular models and it's quite well done though I wish they'd included some 10x50's.
The Eagle Optics Rangers I've been a fanboy of got beat out by Nikon Monarch 5's and Zeiss Terra ED's though Eagle is still a top pick.

I'm not sure if the eyecup problem on Monarchs has been addressed on the Monarch 5. If it has, I'd give them strong consideration.
I finally sent my Monarch 10x42's back for eyecup repair after fighting the cheap broken design for a year or more. Covered under warranty, but if there has been no redesign, they new eyecups won't last long either.
