I think a Saban move would initially and undoubtedly help the BIG12 from a PR standpoint. But longterm that conference is a crap storm. He has been pitching the SEC in recruiting as the most dominant conference in football all these years. What does he say now? Can't wait to see Saban's pitch for quality conference games vs TT/Iowa St/KU....ughh. Even OU/OKST/Baylor/WVU don't really push the meter for me. I'm sure he will have a good team. And will probably schedule weak non-conference so he can easily walk through undefeated every year.

He would fit perfectly at Texas. Arrogant Mac Daddy that everybody kisses butt and will do anything they say. POWER POWER POWER. That is what Saban loves most. He has achieved all he could possibly achieve. But there is always more power. Thats what makes other conferences suck. BIG10 is all Michigan and OSU, BIG12 all Texas, PAC12 is all USC. ACC is and will forever be a basketball conference.

I think him leaving would longterm help the SEC. Nobody wants to see domination, they want parody. The SEC was made great because of parody and so many teams with elite ability. (LSU,UF,UGA,AUB,BAMA tier 1) (A&M-MIZZ-USC-TENN tier 2) That is what makes this conference so good. Nobody likes a tyrant. I think it makes this conference much more interesting long term in Saban rolls out. So many great coaches and schools that are bigger than Saban. Gus, Miles, Spurrier, Franklin, Richt, Pinkel are great coaches, I think Freeze is good too. Sumlin is overrated. Just wait till post JFootball leaves. Anyway I really hope that he leaves so this conference won't be predictable. I thought this season saved the SEC with Mizz vs Aub in the Championship. It was exciting. Too many good brands here in the SEC to be overshadowed by Crimson. It will inject new life in our conference. Thoughts?

Did I miss the press conference? Until that happens, I won't believe it.

However, to speculate an "if", Saban leaving will not hurt the SEC. I don't adhere to one man having that big of an impact, even Saban.

I don't think he's going to UT, but if he does it is bad for the SEC and also hurts LSU in many respects, particularly recruiting. Saban is one of the best ever coaches in terms of managing a program and having him go to UT makes me sick.

How is he going to hurt us in recruiting more than he already is? He already comes into La and recruits the same high profile players we are after now.

Relative to LSU:

1) Texas is a border state, but Austin is actually a farther drive from LSU. Either way, he continues to recruit Louisiana hard and will pick up one or two every year.

2) At Bama, he's head up in the state against one of our biggest SEC West rivals (Auburn). At UT, he's head up in the state against one of our biggest SEC West rivals (A&M).

I say it's a wash, but we gain by enjoying the pain of the Gumps.

I know he takes some from LA, but at UT the state of Texas would be absolutely shut down and he would Still take some from LA.
