With no BCS, why stay in the SEC? Why not fly solo? I have a feeling that Schedule Cherry Picking is the thing of the future Kinda like Ohio St., we all know they were overrated, but winning passes the eye test. Thpughts?

The SEC brings us a lot of money. ND has plenty they can afford to fly solo. Everyone else is hurting themselves by being independent IMO. We have a spot that most want. Why leave?

Yours is a bad one.

Becoming an independent would be crazy.

And lose out on all the money that the conference brings us?

Yea they have screwed us, but it would be terrible to try to go make it on our own. And not just for football...

as much as we should distrust the SEC, going independent would demand a ton more revenue from an already bitchn' bout bucks fan base. the only way we could afford to "fly solo" would be if we signed a fat tv contract and had an extensive and deep pocketed "perow alumni"....if anything ever happens it would be a move to the B12 or ACC. don't hold your breath.

From what I've read lately, TAF pays the salaries, 75-95k people buying tickets pay their share. What exactly does the SEC pay for?

The SEC gave LSU $20.7 mil last year. How do you propose to make this up?

I'm not trolling, just wondering where the $$$ goes? We're adding to a stadium that hasn't been filled all year?

It's not cheap to run an athletic program. Besides paying for the football program, football has to pay for all the non-revenue sports (13 of them). Only baseball and basketball turns a small profit. On top of that, LSU has to donate some back to the University. It's not like the athletic dept is flush with cash, hence the ticket price increase coming.

As long as the tickets are sold, which they are, empty seats aren't that important. Maybe a few dollars lost in concession sales.

Leaving the SEC would be a 20% reduction in revenues. No way we could make up that kind of money without massive increases in ticket prices and donations.

You can fly solo and end up like tulane or fly together and be like LSU tigers. Now which one do you want to be?

Sewanee and Tulane probably miss the revenue more than they thought they would

Some people just don't get that there's other sports besides football at LSU that have scholarship athletes.

The rest of the SEC appreciate what we bring to the conference.

It's only the SEC offices that are a problem for us. They're filled with Bama fans similar to how espn is full of Patriot/Red Sox fans. They can't help but be biased and continue to hire more of their own.

I want to remain in the SEC, but some of u guy's are really going to be disappointed the way they pick bowl games next year. U need to read the process before u get too excited!

Only ND, Texas, and OSU can do this without feeling pain. All could have their own contracts with the networks or their own network. I think LSU fans should lay off the SEC pride though, the conference has only hurt LSU recently. I understand the income thats why I wouldn't say leave, but the office screws us every year scheduling wise. It's a conference built for Bama.

There aren't many programs who could exist outside a conference. Notre Dame, but even they have conference ties now with sports other than football. Maybe Texas could pull it off but obviously they haven't made the move to leave the Big 12.

LSU is better served remaining in the SEC.
