I am looking at a house that has a pool I believe to be irreparable. If I made an offer I would want to take in to account the cost of filling it in. Does anyone here know about what that would cost?

Depends on the size of the pool and whether or not you have easy access to the rear yard.

Pool isn't very big and there would be easy access. Maybe 10'x30' (I'm guessing).

I had a liner pool filled in in 2000 and it cost me $12K to have it removed and filled in. It took 40 dumptruck loads of fill. There's a lot more to it than just dumping dirt in a hole.

Not even close to do it properly.

BTW, What is wrong with the pool?

We have an in ground pool.

It is 10 years old and in working condition, it does need a new liner and a new automatic cover that was destroyed in a wind storm and a few other things.

Actually about $10,000 total.

Our kids are now off to college so we are considering filling it in but I'm hesitant. there is no easy access to it and it is surrounded by lots of concrete.

A bit overwhelmed on what to do

Leave it be.

Fill in with good top soil.

Plant garden with no dangers of weeds

Profit???

Seriously, I could help you if it was above ground, I did that for 5 years. Never touched an in ground except for a pump system.

that is one of my regrets. I wish we would have put in an above ground pool instead of an in ground pool

The beauty of hind sight.

If we had, I could simply tear it apart and haul it off. Or even better, some knucklehead would want it and I could let THEM do the work. Even better!

The in-laws are in the process of filling theirs in.

They jack-hammered holes in the bottom for drainage.

Filled it in with the brokrn up cement around the pool, filled with layers of sand and dirt.

They will sod it over early 2014
