Astros sign Chad Qualls

bullpen help has come boys! In the form of an Astro from the glory years
2 years/6 million with a 2016 option for 3.5 million.
Qualls pitched welll for the Fish last year with a 2.61 ERA in 62 innings. Qualls pitched 4 seasons for the Astros and has a career 3.39 ERA for Houston.

JL doing work. 2013's payroll was $21.13 million. In the last 4 days, he's added 20.35 million with 3 guys. Plus Jason Castro gets a salary bump from league minimum to 2.2 million

I'd love to see another vet brought in. The pen has just been such a nightmare. It got to the point where I knew they'd blow a 1 run lead. Like 0 faith in them.

Middle relievers are the easiest thing in baseball to find. Bull pens should be built from within and by cheap FA signings and bounce back candidates.
No need to invest in mediocre Qualls.

How's that worked out for the Astros the last 2 seasons? Every one of the minor leaguers brought up to the bullpen have failed miserably.
Want more than ERA? Fine. In 2013, he was worth 1.8 wins above replacement. The closet any of our current relievers came to that last year was Chia-Jen Lo at .2

Want more than ERA? Fine. In 2013, Qualls was worth 1.8 wins above replacement. The closet any of our current relievers came to that last year was Chia-Jen Lo at .2
How is it dumb when most of our losses the last two seasons have come at the hands of our bullpen not being able to hang on to a lead?
Houston had the most blown saves in baseball last year and our save % was the lowest in baseball by 5%.
Its completely absurd to say its stupid to spend money on a bullpen when your bullpen has been the worst in baseball the last 2 seasons.

Idc what Qualls did at age 33 in a gigantic Miami ball park.
His numbers all absurdly improved across the board.
He'll regress back and be a mediocre middle reliever like he's been the previous five years.
