That the difference between our last 3000 yard passer was a QB coach? What I mean is, Flynn was a little above average, but his ypa was 6.68. Lee's highest ypa was his last year at 7.8, JJ's was 7.4 his last year (0.1 more than sophomore year), Hatch's was 6.3 Mett's was 7.4.
Russell had 9.1 and Mett had 10.4, both went over 3000 yards, and both completed at least 64% of their passes. I mean even Russell's first year starting he had a higher ypa than any QB between 2007-2012 except for Lee, who he equaled.
Anyway, I don't believe this was just gaining experience or because of roclet launchers attached to their shoulders. They both had QB gurus who were top notch OCs. The correct teaching (or teaching at all) and the system which they played in, made them better and it showed on the stat sheet. Part of this was to say no shite we needed a QB coach/good OC, and part of it was to say that we will be fine no matter who is playing.
Whether AJ is dominating or Rettig or Rivers, or Harris, these guys are in good hands. They are in a great offensive system surrounded by talent. If 2014 class falls right, the QBs will be the rich kids in school with all the candy and best toys.

It's always a combo. Great talent allows the coach to utilize it in different ways. But coaching can make a talent into a star...

Got to give the receivers a little credit here, 2 1st rounders in 06, Landry and Beckham this year...

Cam and Jimbo are no doubt QB gurus, but I think it takes a combo of experience, surrounding cast, and luck (mostly with respect to injuries) for a big season to happen. had the veteran OL we thought Mett would have last yr actually stayed healthy (not to mention the WRs not had the drops early in the yr), 3000 yds in 2012 wasn't unrealistic.
you look at Flynn, he missed a couple games in 07 that would've added to his totals. he also had Early (his best WR) miss a stretch of games, and his replacement in Lafell had a horrible stretch with drops during that time.
