My stepfather used to drink lots of Dewars back in the 70's and 80's.
I bought him a bottle of 12 year old Dewars for Christmas. Has anyone tried this and let me know what you think.

Some will speak bad of all blends, but I look at them in a different light. A blend will remain exactly the same and is adjusted to meet a taste that is usually mellowed and easy on the palate....for a scotch.
If he is a big time scotch drinker you won't blow him away with this selection, but personally I think he will appreciate it and enjoy such a gift from his stepson.
There is a long bourbon/scotch thread in this board, as I said it is a blend so some will automatically suggest a single malt. However, that may not be the taste of the gift recipient.

He likes both blends and single batches.
His go to has always been Dewars. He says he likes it better than Chivas.
Remember Ballantine Scotch. As a bartender, it was the rail scotch at most places I worked. While I was living in VA., I came home for Chirsstmas and bought him a 15 year old bottle of Ballantines.
Talk about smooth. It was the best glass of Scotch I've ever had.

Dewars is a lower-mid blended scotch. Don't let Claire Forlani fool you, it's just a so-so label. If that's what your stepdad likes, then by all means get him a bottle. I'm sure he'll appreciate the thoughtfulness of it more than anything. If he really likes blends, get him a Johnnie Walker green label or above. If he likes single malts, get him a Balvenie 14 or a McCallan 12.
