Anyone shoot long range around here... targets or game... any recommendations on caliber or setup...

What do you consider "long range"?

How much do you want to spend?

700+ yards or so... I saw a set up from gunwerks for 5500 that I like

Venom tactical is what you want to look into.

I'm guessing this one?

If you have that kind of money to drop on an out-of-the-box setup then I guess it might be worth the convenience charge. I'd stick with the 7mm Mag option if you don't plan on reloading. That's a heck of a lot of money if it's something you only plan to shoot casually though.

Talk with Kengel2 he does quite a bit of long range shooting and helped me a lot.
There are a lot of good manufacturers out there. There are also a lot of gun smiths that can take components and make you quite a tack driver out to well beyond 700 yards.
I ended up going with a 6.5 creedmor for less recoil, good ballistics and it's not tough on the barrel. Lots and lots of options. If looking around IMO snipers hide is the premier place on the net to get info.

That place is like the OT Lounge of rifle forums....

There is some BS but there is a TON of knowledge there. NOt to mention a great place to buy a used gun it amazes me how many guns show up on that site.

I really wanted a different caliber(I shoot a weatherby mark 5 sorry for lack of info)... im thinking of the 300... I do plan on reloading if and when I decide to purchase a setup

Probably because so many people think they are gonna get into shooting plates at 1000yds, spend big money on a rifle and glass, find out they suck at it or it sucks to do on a regular basis unless you are loading you own ammo or live on a ranch.

I haven't looked into many forums... I think I will search for some in state gun enthusiasts first... probably good to have some more localized resources

I hear nothing but solid things about the .338 lapua...

There are regular shoots at Palo Alto, 600 yard shoots. Good place to start for local people.
.338 Lapua.... You can have that beast, I'll keep my shoulder. Shooting 2-3K rounds down range a year will take it's toll IMO. .300 win mag isn't a bad round. Lots of great options. Just look into it and shoot a lot. We shoot at my house quite a bit, you are welcome to come visit. I have a 700 yard range in my pasture.

6.5 has a great BC and there are really the big thing in long range.
Off the top of my head these would be great calibers to look into
300 winny
7mm winn mag
7mm STW
300 wsm
300 and 7mm RUM
264 win mag
Check out longrange hunting.com It's like snipers hide without all the dumbshits.

338 lapua isn't that bad, unless you get a feather weight model.

Infidel...
Good list, would add .260

It's not bad, but the ones I have shot with break and heavy barrel let me know they are there more than I want.
