The 5.56 and 300BLK do not require one, other than for qd suppressors.

However, a 458 socom or 50 beowulf would greatly benefit from one. Oh yeah, those are AR-15s too. So, gfy.

Kept trying to post the cheers emoticon but phone wouldn't let me. Didn't think you'd be back to cry before I could on computer.

Any of the AAC breaks and flash hiders are great. Look at Rainier Arms XTC for a good budget break. Runs just about the same as my high dollar break

Unless you are planning on tapping someone on the forehead with one after you tell them to drop the gun then most are good. There are some made that have ceramic tips for breaking windows but I doubt that is a top concern for homeowners...

Rock River Arms tactical muzzle brake (it's tactical so you know it's good)

I am looking to remove my muzzle brake. Why the extra length? Their main purpose on a low recoil 223 is muzzle crown protection.
Sure they look cool, hide a flash (I guess), and claim to make followup shots faster (anyone ever time themselves with and without) but they add additional length.
After removing I would like to find something to add back like a muzzle brake, but smaller. Something to maybe protect the muzzle crown, if that is even necessary.
