Jrue Holiday trade

Almost 30 days into the season, is anyone kind of thinking back on this trade and thinking maybe we shouldn't have done it. We could keep our first round pick next year for one of the best drafts in a long time. We could have kept Nerlens and have AD mentor him and no one could ever score on us in the paint. With those two down low that would give Ryno even more shots. Also we could have kept Vasquez, who is not that much different from Holiday.

if the pick is in the 6-9 range, it will be a huge fail.

The only reason I don't regret it is because we're only 11 games in. If Holiday is still struggling this much by Game 20-25 then I'll be alot more concerned

He's about the same as Vazquez on offense and in TO's but he is much better than GV on D.

GV's D was terrible.

It's gonna take a while for him to fit within this (sub-par) offensive system. He has the talent. It just looks like he's playing disconnected out there. It will get better with time. Hopefully it will get much better.

We will just need to see how the season plays out.

It is usually tough to get bigger players to sign as FAs in smaller markets. I also don't expect our pick to be very high in next year draft. If we ended up with a very high pick it is ours anyways.

But even then, we would still have to wait a few years to see how the players in that range preform compared to Holiday to really judge the trade. Of course there's no way to tell who we would have picked.

Even in the best drafts, a 10-14 pick is not that great. If we somehow shite the bed and get a top 3 pick, we keep it in a top-loaded draft.

I'm not sold on Nerlens Noel. Dude is super skinny and doesn't have the frame to add much weight at all. He also doesn't have much skill on offense, so it could result in a clogged lane.

So far, you are correct. Vasquez was better offensively. We were convinced that Holiday was head and shoulders above him as a defender, but he just hasn't shown much on that end so far. He just doesn't pressure the ball like I wanted him to. Hopefully he is just adjusting to the schemes and rotations that we use. I didn't see enough last year, but it's very possible his steal numbers last year were fool's gold. Sometimes steals come from sagging and jumping lanes, resulting in open lanes to the basket. He has certainly sagged more than I had hoped.

All that said, I think it's too early to say. It's still early and he's still learning his teammates tendencies and abilities. If it is Noel and a 10th pick or later, it will probably end up being a good trade.

We wouldn't be able to keep any big men out of the paint.

He's a completely different player than Holiday.

Yeah I know it is early but it was just some thoughts flowing through my head. I hope he does pan out and play like the AllStar he was last year and that we traded for.

Not true at all. Vasquez had 2 more assist per game and 0.5 less turnovers. Overall shooting % was in Vasquez favor, and 3p% is for Jrue.

Not as much better as many people think. He gets more steals, but he just hasn't been the harassing PG that many people give him credit for. He has a tendency to get lazy and our rotations are really not that much better than last year.

I haven't looked at this yet but you should see what his defensive ratings are and what his opponents offensive ratings are when they play.

ya, it depends on a few things for me...

...how good Noel becomes, how good Holiday becomes (been disappointing so far), where the Pels end up drafting.

People saying it's crazy to have thought this team would make the playoffs are off, imo...the actions of the team say otherwise. You don't make that trade expecting to have a high lottery pick

If it ends up being a top 10 pick and Holiday continues to be mediocre, then it's bad news.

Through the first 11 games last year

GV had 8 less TO's, but 9 less steals and 2 less blocks compared to Jrue's performance thus far.

I'm not saying Jrue has played well. But I don't think GV started playing well until about 2/3rds through last season.

re: Jrue Holiday trade

How about you look at both of their stats for this year this far? Jrue is clearly the better player. I was one if the biggest Vasquez fans out there. Still think we win this trade. Maybe Philly does too but then it just worked out for both sides.

It was way earlier than 2/3s of the way. Maybe 1/3. And I even acknowledged that above.

This far into the season, it looks like the Sixers played us like a fricking fiddle on that trade

I've been very hesitant to jump on this bandwagon, but this is correct to this point. I'm not sure what is going on with Holiday right now. He doesn't look confident. He doesn't look comfortable. He seems to have a hard time gelling with Davis in the PnR, as unfathomable as that may seem. I thought he was cerebral enough to play through the Monty coaching and figure it out anyways.

The most disappointing part for me with Holiday is his defensive effort. I expected him to give the effort we've seen from Tyreke on defense, not the other way around. I agree that 20-25 games is a better sample size but I'm just not seeing anything close to what I think most expected out of him. He was cold-blooded in Philly. That confidence feels like an afterthought now.

I really don't see how we where played like a fiddle???? What did we lose in this trade really? Noel. Is Jrue better than him? I would say hell yeah. Plus not injuries and knees of glass.

re: Jrue Holiday trade

Bc so far MCW has been practically as good as Jrue. So if we had drafted him and kept our pick we'd theoretically be in much better shape. That being said if we pick it up and philly gets a number 13 pick and Nerlens Noel that's not a huge return. And we've seen jrue be a boss in Philly. Still think he's fitting in here, and poor offensive coaching doesn't help

Well for one. We gave up 2 1st rd picks, including a top 5 pick, to invest 4years/42million in one player vs having 2 young guys on rookie contracts. You can also look at what we could have gotten with the extra 8 million in cap space.

People assume that Noel would have been our pick at 5.
