What is the deal with him? I know he was injured earlier in the year and that may have lead to his lack of playing time but I still can see this guy being a Michael Brockers type. I'm still holding out hope he develops. Anybody have any knowledge of his status and development?

Came in injured and out of shape bc of it. Put him too far behind to be a reliable contributor this year. Should see a jump next year. Source: The Rant

My point exactly. But he also has the frame to be that guy who can play either end or tackle and has freaky athleticism for his size. Is he redshirting though? I dont know if it will matter because if he does blow up over the next two seasons, he gone.

lol, you say that as if he's in his RS Soph yr and hasn't seen the field or something. development takes time.

I like the posters who worry about the d linemen ww recruited last yr bc they r redshirting. Brockers, mingo, montgomery, etc all redshirted. Its very rare for a true freshman to come in physically ready for the sec.

I understand it takes time. I just had high hopes for him because the dude was a monster coming in. I still see he and Gilmore as solid guys moving forward.

Exactly not much difference at LSU being a RS Soph or a True JR!

Most of the D-Line from 2013 is redshirting. Should be solid contributors going forward. If Tigers get Gerald Wills III, the competition will be fierce.

So has Herron seen the field or is his redshirt still available?

Herron hasn't played, so it's safe to assume that he's redshirting. not sure anyone on these boards knows much more than that.

I haven't seen him get any snaps but I missed the Furman game.

The 2013 d-line haul will likely be paired with these 2014 studs.

Gerald Willis

Travonte Valentine

Malik McDowell

And that's just the DTs.

If you ever wanted to get into LSU recruiting, this is the year. The foundation for championships is being laid.

Haha I am aware of those guys. I think GW3 will be a beast. Valentine seems to be leaning away from Miami as of late, but I think last years D-Line additions will still be solid for us going forward. I'm curious to see about Garrald McDowell... last I heard he was leaning toward Ole Misses... What a shame.

He came in weighing over 200 lbs. that is far too big for a DT in Chablis's scheme.

You mean 300? Damn that is large haha But for his frame, thats not overly huge. Herron is like 6'5" right?

The unmitigated gall - particularly to suggest that it is the rule, rather than the exception, that a true freshman lineman takes a redshirt year to get bigger (or leaner) and stronger.

Malik for Garrald is a worthy trade. I think we would definitely be getting the better McDowell.

And regarding Valentine, Jimmy Smith said he will definitely not sign with Miami. He looks to be LSU's to lose.

I do believe most guys need a year to redshirt to learn the system and get up to speed with what goes on. I also think that playing as a true freshman is the exception to the rule, not the standard. I've heard a lot of folks make the argument "Our D-Line sucks so if Gilmore/Bain/Herron/Bowers/Neal cant make it on the field now, that says a lot about them." I do not agree with that line of thinking, but I was just curious if anybody knew what was Herrons case in particular because he is an amazing talent. What exactly was his injury anyways?
