For me, in sort of order:

Homework
Lonesome Crowded West
OK Computer
Third Eye Blind
I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One
Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
Perfect from Now On

That's all I can think of/look up on google from 1997

97 was a pretty fricking good year for music, actually. Probably the best era of Phish too, outside of Fall '95

That was my first year of high school, first rock concert, first for a ton of things with music!

Was being thrown around in that other thread. Figured I'd pick a year and let the chips fall how they may.

Man, looking at that list... 1997 was an awful, terrible year for music.

Life After Death was the best thing to come out of 97.

Other than some legendary Phish shows

yeah it was the beginning of a really dark era that we didn't come out from for good 6 or 7 years

Ok Computer - Radiohead

All BS aside, this album is pretty flipping amazing.

Some of my all-time favorite albums came out in 1997. I’m not sure how much depth the year had, but I would likely take my 5 favorite 1997 albums over 5 from any other year, ever. Maybe a handful of other years could compete.

Those 5 would be:

Built to Spill- Perfect From Now On
Modest Mouse- Lonesome Crowded West
Radiohead- OK Computer
Yo La Tengo- I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One
Elliott Smith- Either/Or

Granted at the time, I was ten and had never of any of this, but I love them now.

That list was pretty dismal. My personal top 10 would likely look like:

Elliott Smith – Either/Or
The Dismemberment Plan Is Terrified
Ben Folds Five – Whatever and Ever Amen
Sleater-Kinney – Dig Me Out
Blink-182 – Dude Ranch (I make no apologies)
Prodigy – Fat of the Land
Neko Case – The Virginian
Harvey Danger – Where Have All the Merrymakers Gone?
Modest Mouse – Lonesome Crowded West
Death Cab For Cutie – You Can Play These Songs with Chords

Radiohead - OK Computer (by a long shot. One of my favorite albums of all time)

Daft Punk - Homework

Notorious BIG - Life After Death

Phish - Slip,Stitch, and Pass ( easily Phish's best touring year, but this is the only live album released within the year)

Brian Jonestown Massacre - Give It Back! ( underrated)

Oasis - Be Here Now (I realize that this is one of the most hated albums ever, but I still like some tracks)

Etienne de Crecy - Super Discount ( french house)

Royal Flush - Ghetto Millionaire ( hip hop)
