I would really love to see him playing MLB for us considering how bad our current options are. He's definitely got the prototypical size for a MLB and the athleticism. Obviously MLB is the hardest position to learn on defense so I understand if he's given more time at DE for the time being. But where so you see Beckwith shine eventually?

I would take Beckwith over Welter any day of the week.

Do you know that even the slightest mention of 3-4 defense here will get you blasted?

Hard to say. Like the other guy said, he's an ideal 3-4 OLB, which means he'd probably play DE in our 4-3 system (see Mingo). But we're bringing in a lot of DL in the 2013 and 2014 classes, and the 2012 batch of linebackers has not lived up to its billing, Kwon Alexander excepted.

I'll say he won't be Minter, he'll be Mingo or an OLB.

It looks like the coaching staff is insistent upon playing him with his hand on the ground. Therefore, I'll say Mingo. Hopefully, even more productive.

Miles has been asked this question a bunch lately and he keeps insinuating DE, so unless something changes dramatically in the spring I don't think he is going to be playing too much LB for us. Personally I would love to see him get the chance at the Mike position I seriously can't think of how he could ever be worse than Welter given an entire spring to work at the position.

Next Keiland Williams inexplicably sitting the bench most of the time.

It looks like he has the athletic ability to rush the passer and the strength to hold the edge. If that is true he could be a combo of Mingo and Sam.

In the limited snaps he's gotten he looks to rush the passer pretty good. Maybe there are other parts of his game keeping him from the field. A lot of bodies at DE, if Rasco, Allen or Hunter would have been able to move inside I bet we would have seen him more.

Our LBs will improve tremendously if we get better DL play next season and Louis/Beckwith/Garrett can put Welter's arse on the bench

He is a perfect fit for middle linebacker in a 4-3. See Kelvin Sheppard and Minter. Both 240lb plus guys. Sheppard was 250lbs. Not all middle linebackers need to be or even should be small. Most have good size and thickness. Beckwith is athletic enough to play inside. The problem is we have nobody to play defensive end. Our line is not very good at containment on the ends.

He needs to play so we can find out. But it will be extremely difficult to supplant Welter

I think poor DL play has hurt our entire Defense.

No pressure form the Ends has hurt our young secondary
DTs aren't eating blocks like Brockers and Logan used to has hurt out LBs

I think our Defense starts with a dominant DT and we are lacking one.

So you are saying "size" does matter at the end of the day...
at least for the Mike LB position, and that's what I like about Beckwith. You cannot overlook his size compared to Welter or even Louis.

He never will play MLB as long as Miles keeps him on special teams and says he will be used at DE. However, MIles says he can play everywhere, but the fans are waiting to see him at MLB this year starting.
