I hope this question isn't too elementary- filing a DBA in Louisiana.

If you already have an LLC and you would like to allow another similar business, but with a different name, operate under that LLC, any particular paperwork that needs to be filed with the state?
Also, does this diminish any protection offered as far as other people using that name, trademark, etc.?
I'm sorry if this question seems amateurish, but I tried looking on the SoS website and I don't see anything referencing this topic. It's probably right in front of my face.
Thanks and if I need to clarify anything, please ask.

An LLC doesn't protect you in that way. Other than keeping someone from using the same name, you don't benefit from any other intellectual property security.
Just file for another LLC, IMO.

I know I have to protect the original LLC with trademarks as well, but I think you answered my question. To clarify, if I were to just use the original LLC and have another business name operating under it (similar business, different name), I'm only protected from name use?
I guess I can provide an example as well. Joe's Taxidermy is the original LLC and Joe's Pet Stuffing is the additional business (Hypothetical names). It would be more beneficial to just file a new LLC rather than allow Joe's Pet Stuffing to operate under Joe's Taxidermy? I hope I'm being clear.
And thanks!
