Seattle's Matt Flynn provides one example. While the Seahawks have cap room to carry Flynn's $5.25 million salary and $7.25 million cap number, those figures do not represent great value for a backup. Flynn has some security against release, however, because the $6 million signing bonus he received is counting $2 million against the cap in each of the three years of the deal. Flynn also has $2 million in 2013 base salary guaranteed. So, if the Seahawks were to release Flynn, they would still be on the hook for that $2 million in guaranteed salary, which would count against their cap. They would also have to account under the cap for some of the $6 million in bonus money paid earlier. One-third of that $6 million counted against the 2012 cap. The remaining two-thirds would count against the 2013 cap if the Seahawks released him. That means Flynn's contract would count $6 million against the 2013 cap even if Seattle released him. The price for keeping Flynn on the roster is an additional $1.25 million in cap room -- not much in the bigger picture.

Flynn had 2 good games in GB.

Leaves, gets beat out every where he goes.

Returns to GB.

Now, if he succeeds in Rodgers's absence, then maybe there is something to the system. That's all I'm saying.

Brady gets criticized for the year of Cassel, Rodgers should get the same treatment.

So why haven't Seneca Wallace and Tolzien blew up in Rodgers' absence?

Doesn't matter to the greater narrative.

But, Rodgers doesn't just do well in GB, he excels. In fact, he excels so well, that he's coming off the greatest 2 season stretch for a QB in NFL history. His career numbers are:

186 TDs
50 INTs
66% COMP
105 RAT

The way he protects the ball, and the throws he makes, alone make it obvious that he's not a system QB. Couple that with his numbers, I don't see how anyone can think he's a "system" QB.

That contract is no longer valid. He reworked his deal once he got traded to the Raiders that converted his salary into a signing bonus so he is owed 6.5 mil this year. That money is guaranteed since he was on the roster as of Week 1.

The money that the Bills paid him and the money that Green Bay will be subtracted from the money that Oakland still owes him.

Here is a LINKtalking about it when he signed with the Bills.

quote:

The Raiders might be hoping Flynn signs with Buffalo. Flynn has $6.5 million fully guaranteed contract for 2013 that Oakland's on the hook for paying. However, the Raiders did include offset language in Flynn's contract, so if Flynn were to sign with the Bills, any money Buffalo pays him would be money the Raiders don't owe him.

the odd thing is, it's not like he's played poorly. He's just too old to be a prospect and he has no real upside. But look at his numbers this year in two games and one start:

22/34, 64.7%, 246 yds, 7.24 Y/A, 83.7 RAT

Not elite, but not bad. Look at his rate stats. If he had enough attempts to qualify, he'd rank 6th in completion percentage, 16th in Y/A, and 18th in passer rating. He's essentially a mediocre starter in a market in which everyone is looking for either a high end starter or a project.

Flynn has had two impressive. games. Let's calm down there. This is like a guy hitting .400 after a month.

Cassel did it for a whole season. He even had a second decent year when he was in Kansas City.
