Not trying to come here and start any type of controversy and I understand some will ask, "you come to the Tiger Rant and ask this foolish question". However, I know that some on here that post work at LSU and inside the Athletic Dept, etc. so do you know, Did Skip Bertman do all that he could have done to keep Nick Saban? Certainly, I know that 's all water under the bridge and what could have been is not the way it turned out? If you know and truly are an insider, Was Saban just Hell bent on going to the NFL or Did Bertman's ego stand in the way of Saban's ego. Just asking, don't need to be lectured by anyone , but its just amazing of how we had really closed the gap on Bama and it has once again really seemed to have widened as Hanagriff and Risher said on Saturday's post game show. Just curious if anyone really knows. TIA

OMG

Saban turned down the Dolphins initially. Then Wayne Heizenga (sp?) flew to BR on Christmas Day, Handed Terry an envelope of $12K and said there is much more of that.

The rest is history.

Nope. Bertman personally went to Nick's house on Highland Road and helped him pack. I was there.

Saban was leaving no matter what it was only a matter of time...give Les time hes has a young defense this year and next year a young offense.. So probably 2015 as the earliest they'll get back to 10-2

Saban had run around skip and gone straight to Mark Emmert as a habit. Not to mention pissing off several big time boosters. When Emmert left, the handwriting was on the wall.

According to Boby Hebert on the WWL pre-game show Saban had to leave LSU. Wouldn't elaborate other than to say Terri made the decision. He said, "Let's just say Saban needed a fresh start" and he left it at that. That was the first I had heard of such and if that is true I'm not sure why he would even bring up that garbage now. I thought it was interesting, but it really served no purpose saying that on the air 9 years later.

That's why Miles was hired. He's the opposite of Saban (push over) for the good old boys to pull the strings again.

Thanks to all for the answers. Guess with all hie previous firtations with the NFL, it was inevitable and for the information on him side stepping Bertman to go to Emmert and the information on Terri saying it was time to leave (I guess all the Candy Edwards rumors were true), he had no choice. Any way, thanks to all that had input on this question.
