Buying a gun with a different states drivers licenses

I have a GA drivers license and was wondering if I could buy a hunting rifle in Louisiana?
Having a hard time finding info on this and a friend told me I couldn't. Was going to look for a cheap decent rifle this week at bass pro or cabelas but don't want to look if it would be just a waste of time.

I believe you can for rifles and shotguns; handguns, OTOH, must be bought in the state you reside in.

That's correct, I've bought rifles and shotguns in both Texas and Florida.

When did you buy those rifles? Im trying to find the statutes, but all I can find is "Revised Statute was repealed by xxxxxxx" only find out the xxxxxx was repealed by something else.

I bought a rifle at the bass pro in San Antonio in march of this year.

Ya, the old law allowed residents of louisiana to buy long guns in texas, miss, and ark. It also allowed residents of those states to purchase long guns here. Its been repealed apparently, I just cant find where it is.

The last time I bought a gun in Florida was in Orlando at bass pro and it was a shotgun. That was December of 2011.

Texas state law allows you to purchase a long gun as long as you can prove residency any a state whose borders touch Texas.

Your friend is dumb and it's a Federal statute that you are looking for under 18 USC 922.

Nope. You can purchase a rifle if you live in any state in the US as long you are legally able to possess that rifle in the state you reside.
