If we weren't a gun society he'd still be alive.

I've got to go with the cops on this one. Using a truck as a battering ram is considered the use of a deadly weapon. He had already rammed several vehicles with the truck, so revving his engines was an indication that he was about to do it again.

Sorry, but the kid put himself in the situation by running away from the cops. Had he stopped like a normal human being, this would not have become a deadly situation.

BTW, lesson learned.

It's easy to Monday morning QB the whole thing...but it's the cops that stand between us and rogues like that kid.

Two choices...they either go after the kid, or let him go. He'd already been in jail; they knew what they were dealing with. What they didn't know, was whether or not he was armed...or whether he would floor it and try to run over one of their buds. They were pumped with adrenaline and pissed at someone who exhibited NO CONCERN for the lives of those he endangered. Everybody overreacted. Stuff happens.

Either it's a lesson for everybody, and the kid in his next life...or we are all dead forever and none of this matters.

I have zero love for C student with a gun, but I'm thinking this was justified. He wasn't a "kid". He was an adult that made an adult decision and he put peoples lives in danger. Did someone say he was "unarmed"? Srsly? He was behind the wheel of a 7000 pound weapon and he had already used it as a weapon. Revving the engine showed intent to continue his flight, putting more people in danger.

Or the kid put other peoples lives in danger acting like an idiot got and got himself killed.

We need more cops like the two on the PBS series, "Last of the Summer Wine". Cops are supposed to drink their coffee and eat their doughnuts. Let the spoiled bastards run the city. No need to spoil kids self esteem by punishing them. Let them grow up and kill each other.

OP.

The offender being shot had nothing to do with his age or his father.

It had everything to do with using a 4000lb truck as a weapon against officers and being a deadly threat to society. Period.

Now I guess the "if you don't raise your son right" story includes the cops shooting him.

Exactly. Teach your kids that if you pick a fight with a grown man, he will kill you. That includes threatening to run over cops with a truck. Teach them it IS their fault and you ARE responsible for your actions. Period.

Just watched the video. Absolutely no problem with what the cops did and how they reacted. The victim is 100% to blame for the actions that resulted in his death. Unfortunate, but the consequences of his actions.

Not that you have a valid argument for even this case, but do you realize how foolish a statement it is that people shouldn't feel safer that cops have guns? Cops have taken far more lives in the defense of themselves or others than they have out of negligence. Furthermore, any common sense thought process on the issue would realize rather quickly that cops would be killed off in short manner if they did not have a gun. Bad people have guns and other deadly weapons that necessitates cops having them. It really is that simple.

Don't see how that could be used as a rationalization for murdering the kid

Tell me more about your average day at work trying to prevent people from killing others with a 4,000 pound weapon.
