# What do you make of this word problem?(possibly evil common core related)

This is from 2nd grader's math test that was sent home today.

At Christmas last year, Matt got \$50 from each of his mothers, \$40 from his brother, and \$8 from his sister. How much money did he get in all?

I personally thing it's an attempt to push the LBGT and Christian agenda on my 2nd grade son.

He got it "wrong" by the way because he smart enough to know it's impossible for someone to have to mothers.

One could be a step mother.

Well then it would be a poorly worded question. A step mother and a mother are two completely different things.

Maybe he should have asked how much Matt got from the sperm donor.

ETA: Explain to him the importance of answering a stupid question with another question.

So if a guy had a mom and a step mom and he told a friend," I got \$50 from each of my moms", this would be odd to you?

Not buying it. Unless his brother is 30 yo.

Yes. The real mom should be offended. The proper way to say it would be "My mother and step mother each gave me \$50."

How old is Matt?

He could just have a mother-in-law.

That information is not given. It's on a second grade test. I think we can assume that Matt is supposed to be in the 6-8 year old range.

I laughed but you are looking way too hard into this. It actually took me 2 reads to see that it referenced more than 1 mother.

What if the "mothers" aren't mothers at all but, in fact, wealthy and mysterious benefactors to Matt?

Exactly. The correct answer is of course 148. My son answered 98 because most children would just assume one mother. They are subtly indoctrinating my child into thinking homosexual behavior is right and normal.

In THAT case, his two lesbian mothers could have divorced and each married another lesbian.

Thus, the "each of his mothers" means FOUR mothers.

That kid is stacking paper

They are more than likely indoctrinating your child in other areas as well.

Maybe the book was written in Utah and the "father" is Mormon with 2 wives.
