The Gold Glove award winners have gotten a lot of deserved criticism over the years, but they actually did a pretty good job this year.

However the Silver Sluggers continue to be under the radar shitty picks.

DH D. Ortiz, BOS
C J. Mauer, MIN
1B C. Davis, BAL
2B R. Cano, NYY
SS J. Hardy, BAL
3B M. Cabrera, DET
OF T. Hunter, DET
OF A. Jones, BAL
OF M. Trout, LAA

P Z. Greinke, LAD
C Y. Molina, STL
1B P. Goldschmidt, ARZ
2B M. Carpenter, STL
SS I. Desmond, WSH
3B P. Alvarez, PIT
OF J. Bruce, CIN
OF M. Cuddyer, COL
OF A. McCutchen, PIT

The American League had some no-brainers that they got right. Ortiz, Crash, Cano, Miggy, and Trout. Would've given the nod to Carlos Santana over Mauer, but I'm fine with Mauer. Hardy is an awful pick. Voters probably forgot about Jed Lawrie who should've won easily. Was dead set on criticizing the voters for selecting Torii and Adam until I realized how pathetic American League outfielders were this year. If you are an outfielder in the American League you should be embarrassed about your hitting performance unless you are Mike Trout. I would've gone with Daniel Nava and Joey Bats ahead of Torii and AJ, but I'm actually okay with it.

National League did worse. I would have voted Posey and Votto ahead of Goldschmidt and Molina, but those are both really close. Carpenter was a no-brainer. Desmond is a pitiful pick. Hanley or Tulo easily. I'd vote Tulo. Alvarez equally terrible. Either David Wright, Chris Johnson, or Ryan Zimmerman. Wright was far and away the best when healthy so I'd vote him despite low PA numbers. I think Choo and McCutchen are no-brainers, and I'd rank Jayson Werth slightly above Cuddyer, Puig, and Holliday.

Alvarez got it strictly on home runs. As much as I would have liked to see Chris Johnson win it, Ryan Zimmerman would have been better than Alvarez.

Goldy had a better year than Votto. He deserved to win.

Choo sucked against lefties, as usual. That has to count for something, and probably is why he didnt win. You didn't even mention Bruce (or is that who you meant?). Bruce was certainly worthy of winning. He quietly had a great season.

I don't even think Goldy over Votto is close. Dbacks make the playoffs and he's the MVP.

Worst pick is by far Desmond.

Bruce did have a great year. But he wasn't close IMO. .262/.329/.478 in 697 PAs is very good. But Hunter Pence for example slashed .283/.339/.483 in 687 PAs in a much tougher ballpark. There were guys who were better.

Choo's .423 OBP also has to count for something. No one was close

Bruce's NL Ranks:
HR: 3rd (1st among OF)
Doubles: 3rd (1st among OF)
RBI: 2nd (1st among OF)
OPS+: 7th

If those aren't Silver Slugger numbers, I don't know what is.

Out of 25 qualified NL OFs he was 17th in wRC+, 19th in OBP, and 12th in slugging.
