How in the world can one look at national rankings of #3, #5, #1, #17, #8, #2, #12, and a current #10 and conclude a coach putting up those national rankings is only able to do that cause he found LSU in good shape 9 yrs ago???

So you are telling me that had Les Miles taken over LSU in 2000 instead of Saban, LSU wins a national title and 2 SEC titles in his first 4 years? You think Les builds LSU from what DiNardo left?

So why, therefore, would you let anything other than Les' record at LSU--the most impressive such record in the history of the football program--and his accomplishments, which no other coach at LSU has bested, speak for themselves?

I've only evaluated a few teams, but based on final Coaches' poll rankings since 2008, the following teams' final rankings have average:
quote:

4) tOSU - 9.6
2008 - 11
2009 - 5
2010 - 5
2011 - 26 (unranked)
2012 - 26 (unranked and ineligible)

Average = 14.6

Tryin' to slip one past the goalie there?

I give Nick lots of credit for what happened at LSU starting with 2000.

I also credit ME, TAF, and the powers that be at LSU for finally waking up and joining the college football arms race. Lots of positive factors came into play in 1999-2000 and on for LSU football that had never been there before. Nick was but one.

Who knows what Les could have done at that period cause LSU was pouring coins into the football program like never before.

Nick was good for LSU, but I don't think he was the only coach in the game who could have won big at LSU given all the positive factors that came into play at that time for LSU.

I took it as their AP ranking those two years if that is your issue. We are ranking the teams, not who is eligible for the BCS title or bowl games. If it makes you feel better though go ahead.

And how many in the top 10 have a national title? And people think we can do better? I just don't get it.

I am not knocking Miles ability. I just think Saban was the type of coach that LSU needed to get going. He was relentless unlike Miles and nothing else mattered to him but the team succeeding if only to feed his own ego. His approach is and always will be much more effective at building a program IMO.

That said, Miles' demeanor and methods fit well into what LSU needed after that phase, but a lot more was forced on Miles and his hands tied in the beginning including maintaining Jimbo and preventing him from hiring his buddy Bill Clay as DC.

I simply think Les' approach won't continue to work as the player leadership isn't there like it was instilled before and he's not the guy to instill it from scratch. I do think the guy would do anything for his players and they love him for that, but sometimes that isn't enough to succeed at the levels expected of him by most fans.

You're just a hack and a shitty fan, that's all. You jump through more hoops to defend Ohio State than than you do for LSU. Ohio State hasn't even been eligible for each of the past five seasons, and you put them ahead of LSU.

Just another sidewalk nega-Tiger who shits on my school's football team and can suck my balls.

Texas may have the deepest pockets in college football, so I don't doubt this for a second...

Yeah I bet Michigan fans wish they had Miles. One thing I love about Les is he stuck with us. He could have bolted on the brink of a bcs championship. LSU should show him loyalty like he showed us. We would be in a shite storm if not for Miles prob bouncing around from coach to coach. LSU would have just been a stepping stone job. Do people really want to be up shits creek and have hired guys like, beilema, muschamp, jones, kiffin? I mean seriously, you guys think we could get just any coach we wanted. Doesnt work that way.

so, are you saying miles is the cream of the crop?

also, does the sec favoritism of al factor in to the bos decisions? (schedules and officials?)

I throw the no-decision on cam/au in the al favoritism.

not trying to steal a post, but does the obvious officiating steals factor in?

WHO does geauxgirl think would have been better?
WHO should be earning more as lsu coach?

some only see w/ negative eyes and defend their position with very narrow focus.
