Thanks to LSURussian for the summaries:

- We got 12 players to sign or commit early last week, 6 position players and 6 pitchers.
- Of the 12, 4 are from Louisiana and 8 are from out of state.
- Javi said the 6 pitchers coming in represent the best group of pitching prospects he has seen in the 7 years he has been at LSU and he attributes that to AD's reputation in developing pitchers for the next level.
- 6 of the 12 attended, at some point, the LSU Showcase Baseball Camp.
- 6 of the prospects are rated in the top 175 by "Perfect Game".
- If this was the end of recruiting and we were able to keep all 12 on the team and not lose anyone to the pros, we would have the #4 ranked recruiting class.

Now the specifics on the players:

1) Greg Deichmann- Shortstop out of Bro Martin HS. He's a close friend of the Hollander family (Mike Hollander, former LSU 3rd baseman) and has dreamed of playing for LSU since he was a kid. We may need his dreams to keep him at LSU because he is projected to possibly be a 1st round draft pick next June.

2) Austin Bain- from Dutchtown HS. He pitches and plays shortstop. All around baseball player. Not sure yet if he will pitch or play a position for LSU. It will depend on how he develops once he joins the team.

3) Grayson Byrd- plays shortstop or anywhere he wants to play, including pitcher. Probably going to be a position player for LSU. Former LSU and major league pitcher Paul Byrd's son.

4) Alex Lange- from Lee Summitt, Missouri. He's an Under Armor All American and has drawn a lot of interest by MLB. Power right-handed pitcher with fast ball clocked in low 90's as a junior in high school. Described as a "big" kid.

5) Bobby Bradley- power hitter from Gulf Port, MS. He's left handed and plays 1st base. He is a true first base prospect. Reminds the coaches of Matt Clark at first and also when hitting home runs.

6) Mac Marshall- from Milburn, GA. #1 rated pitcher in Georgia and top 20 nationally. Of course, MLB knows about him. He's a LHP and throws mid-90's. Gonna be a challenge to see him in an LSU uniform.

7) Michael Papierski- He's a catcher from Lamont HS in Lamont, Illinois. Big frame, natural catcher's body and is a switch hitter for power both sides.

8) Jake Latz- LHP, from Lamont HS, Lamont, Illinois. That's right, the same high school as #7 above. We got the battery from that school. His best pitch is his curve. Drops off the table. Almost unhittable for high school players.

9 & 10) Twins brothers Beau and Bryce Jordan- from Barbe HS, Lake Chuck. Beau is not a pitcher and Bryce is currently a catcher. (Bonus trivia question: when was the last time LSU had twin brothers playing on the baseball team? Yes, it has happened, during the Bertman era.)

11) Doug Norman- RHP, Fort Mills, South Carolina. Grandfather is a professor at LSU and his mother graduated from LSU. Described as 'very tall' and 'needs to fill out his frame.' Fastball with a change up gets batters out for him.

12) Hunter Van Horn- Tampa, FL. LHP, upper 80's to low 90's. His strength is he throws strikes. Almost never walks a batter.

Day 3: Freshman # 18 Dakota Dean!



LSU Profile

Most Tiger fans should recognize this name and with good reason. Dakota is the younger brother of former LSU first baseman and All-American Blake Dean. And while there are similarities between the two (mainly their swings), Dakota sets himself apart with his versatility. He has quick feet but with a solid frame. And unlike Blake, he's right handed and can play any infield position.

Obviously, Dakota comes from a family that is very special to LSU Baseball. When you watch Dakota play, you are going to literally think it is his brother Blake out there on the field. His baseball actions are a spitting image of Blake’s - except he throws right-handed and plays all three infield positions. Dakota possesses a smooth, lefty stroke that provides gap-to-gap power and could develop into home run power during his time at LSU. Dakota, as several of our recruits were, was a tough football player as a quarterback and defensive player back in Crestview, Florida.

Day 4: Freshman # 25 Jarret DeHart!

Jarret is another great addition to an already stacked LSU outfield. His style of play and areas of strength (speed, arm strength, reaction time, routes) reflect the new style of college baseball where defense trumps hitting. But Jarret is no slouch at the plate either. He has above average bat speed with power potential to all fields and regularly makes solid contact.

Jarret is a left handed hitting outfielder from Shawnee High School in Medford, N.J. He is the second cousin of former Tiger standout Brett Laxton, so even though he is from the Northeast he is well versed in the history and tradition of LSU Baseball. Jarret is very athletic and the kind of player who will really develop with all of the reps he will get throughout fall practice. We are hoping he can develop into a left-handed power hitter and a guy that can be a real offensive threat for the Tigers. He is another player that we felt was a legitimate risk to lose to pro ball. However, he expressed to professional baseball his strong desire to play for LSU and, therefore, went undrafted and will be on campus in August.

Day 5: Freshman # 23 Jake Fraley!

Jake is probably the most talented position player in this freshman class, and that's saying something. His speed stands out and is comparable to Laird and Stevenson :swoon:, but he is above average in all 5-tool categories.

Of all the players arriving on campus, Jake is probably the guy we most feared we would lose to pro ball. Jake is a frontline left-handed outfielder from Middletown, Delaware. As a high school player entering college, Jake is as close as it gets to the proverbial “five-tool player.” Along with possessing all of the physical traits to be a great ballplayer, Jake works tirelessly on becoming a better player every day which makes the sky the limit for his potential at LSU. Jake is a key component of this recruiting class, and we are ecstatic about seeing him take the field wearing the purple and gold.

LSU is one of the best college baseball programs in the country, and the most successful over the past 10 years! I visited a lot of other colleges and talked with all of their coaches during the summer and fall of 2011. During my visit to LSU I was so impressed with the time that all four coaches spent with me and my parents. We talked about baseball of course, but also life, academics, and my family.
