It's beyond pathetic. He's like an attention-starved child.

I really don't mean to sound like a prick but this kind of stuff has become all too common. The gesture is nice but not every high school/peewee team needs to do this.

Meh. I doubt the special needs kid cares that it's happened before. It put a smile on his face and that's really what matters.

Why let an opportunity to look cool on the internet go to waste?

We let a kid that played football for us in a similar situation to return a kickoff for a TD during a JV game (the other team had a similar kid on their team that we let score on us), it was really cool

Then some douchebag sophmore told the kid that the other team let him score.

It may be common now, which is great, but on the past a lot of these kids wouldn't even have been going to the same school, much less be on the football team.

My sons 8th grade team has a special needs kid also. And they all have his back. My son also volunteers (along with a lot of other kids) to go to the elementary schools and spend time with younger special needs kids. We've come a long way from 'short bus' jokes, and it's a great thing.

You should talk to some of the parents, who spend every minute worrying about these kids, and let them tell you how much it means to them to have so many others that care for their kid.
