So, I have this friend who got one of those stop torrenting letters. What is the proper course of action, aside from taking their advice?

You're the best

Mail them back a box full of feces in the mail. It's what those douchebags deserve.

While I appreciate your thinking outside the box, my friend is looking for a more practical approach

Don't let Torrents seed it seems to be easier to get caught that way.

truth. turn your upload limit as low as it can go and remove whatever you dl from the torrent program as soon as it finishes. Close Bittorrent (or whatever you use) whenever you arent using it.

we got caught a few times in college and the Cox guy told us they don't care about your downloads, but it is the sharing they try to prevent and it is much easier to track.

Yeah, that's generally how I would do it if I were to dl torrents, but I guess my friend didn't think of that

I honestly don't understand why anyone torrents anymore. Just about the second a DVD version becomes available, someone is streaming it.

With a stream, you aren't sharing with anyone and to date I don't think I single person has been hit with a lawsuit or letter for streaming.

Uploading yes. Sites hosting streaming yes. But not people who streamed.

As to the letter, isn't a new policy in place that allows you to get several letters before any real action is taken?
