Why is Electronic Music such a cult?

I have a friend who got into it and now all she ever talks about is how all these music festivals are life affirming and she lives for the concerts and stuff. She's always talking about how she's having religious experiences that nobody can understand at these dirty music festivals and concerts.
It's very cultish, why is that?

Also...most of the rest of the world likes EDM music.
When we have our company Christmas parties on this side of the Atlantic and the DJ's just play hip hop, all the Europeans are lost. Vice versa when we have our Christmas parties on their side.
