ODB Mechanics. Need Help!

I went to crank my outboard last night and the battery was dead. I then decide to charge it, and crank it in the morning before I leave. Well, it is still dead after charging all night. I figured I might new to replace the battery. But, I swapped it over to the troll motor battery, and when I crank it, sparks started flying from the battery. What could the problem be? Bad ground?

My guess is a bad cell in the cranking battery.
