Guy selling it says it's a 1948 Belgian.

Wants to trade for a drum set of mine valued at 1k but I'm thinking of asking for cash to make up the difference.

I see so many of those in pawn shops with that goofy choke on them.

Worthless, IMO. Without the choke, I'd give $650 or so...

Notice the safety inside the trigger guard.

People who know what I am talking about will know what I'm saying.

Get the serial number for accurate date

The safety in the font of the trigger guard was standard on the Auto-5 from 1909 till midway through 1951.

I might be off but I don't think so.

Do not shoot steel through that gun!

Yeah I'm ignorant on eyeing these on the spot that's why I brought it here. Asked for serial number and he's "not with the gun right now"

Somebody already has. That's probably why it has that goofy dildo on the end of the barrel.

OP, you don't want that gun.

Pretty much where my A5 sits these days. I'm sure it would shoot fine in the field but really don't see a reason to take it anywhere.

so many people have ruined those beautiful old A5s with the poly-choke. I wonder what the cost would be to get rid of it and set it up for removeable chokes?

I didn't know that. I thought it was a way to put a choice of choke on the old ones that didn't have invector chokes.

My A5 has a full choke barrel... that's it, there is no changing it. Like others have said, it doesn't get shot much. I killed a couple of squirrels with it a few years ago.

My wife has a 20 gauge Remington built on the A5 design that came from the factory with the poly choke.

My dad's Belgium A5 has a pair of barrels.

I'm pretty sure those old Polys were soldered in place. You probably have two options which would be to cut off the Poly and then have the barrel threaded with thin wall chokes like Brileys. The more cost effective route may be to simply buy a new barrel and have it choked to your specs. A lot of folks still love those Polys and I'm pretty sure are shooting steel with em'..

I have one with the same safety, it's not in good shape but it doesn't have any detail on the receiver like that one. Also says Fabrique Nationale on it
