One of the biggest issues that I havent seen discussed enough that killed us in this game and has been an issue all year is our guys seem to be making an effort to try and strip the ball instead of making a clean tackle. Defenders are missing to many stops to killa drive because they are all trying to make a play on the ball instead of the player. Is this what we are coaching now?

Turnovers change games. Its not an unreasonable tactic. Seems like something you should only use if you can't beat them by less subversive means, though.

i only saw this on two consecutive downs late when we needed a turnover.

I noticed it throughout the game on Sat night and on the rewatch last night when i was a little more of sound mind. Its noticeable.

well i was drinking. i don't have a problem with it when a different player has secured a tackle and another comes with the strip attempt. but it doesn't replace tackling.

I didn't have a problem with it. We were down in the second half and Ole Miss used a new RB.

The big problem is that I have really only seen one player ever really capable of pulling that off enough to make a difference. Otherwise, you just give up yards.

I agree, but honestly, their tackling hasn't been good even when they were NOT trying to strip the ball. Our defense is soft, period. That's why I didn't have a problem with it on Saturday.

I think that describes this team in a nutshell. They always try to do the things that should be done on top of fundamentals by themselves. They never seem to build upon their success and add these things after they are fundamentally sound, they just jump straight to the "fancy" things.

The stripping just happened a few times last game, that's not the problem. Tackling has sucked the whole season and it's because they just try to hit people as hard as they can with no technique whatsoever. And the fact that they're still doing this is ridiculous

Seems like a fair observation. I see it all the time. Tackles missed because of constantly trying to strip the ball.

It is not Lost on me that this team continually struggles to wrap up.
